Cultural Presentations

An old house on the Atchafalaya speaks to a time long past

The history of the Atchafalaya is one of the stories of the American tapestry

The Bridge across the Atchafalaya is an engineering marvel

The bridge also opened up Cajun country to the rest of the world

Cleoma's Ghost has developed a profound love for the culture of the Cajun people of SW Louisiana. We have traveled extensively throughout the region and developed strong and lasting friendships with musicians and non-musicians throughout Cajun country. This has led to an immersion into the music as well as the history of the Cajun culture. it is through this association that we have developed a Cultural Presentation which documents the history of the Cajun people starting with their roots in France, following their resettlement to Canada and their ultimate forced migration to SW Louisiana and the culture as it has developed from there.  We present this history in a multimedia presentation.

Since the timeline of the music and that of the culture itself is intimately linked, the presentation follows a natural and logical sequence between historical fact and musical evolution.

We give examples of this evolution and include musical representations both recorded and live. We can offer a Cajun style dance at the conclusion of the presentation.

The program can be tailored to suit the needs of the audience. We have worked in the schools with Foreign language departments during Language Immersion sessions.

We have presented at libraries throughout upstate NY and this Fall semester will be teaching a course on Cajun culture and dance at a local college. The pairing of images and live music and our insights and stories makes for a wonderfully rich afternoon or evening program.
